Imagine a life where each moment is a gift, not a task to check off. Discover the freedom of time through the inspiring insights of my guest on “Today’s Heartlift with Janell,”—Jen Pollock Michel.
In her latest book, In Good Time: Eight Habits for Reimagining Productivity, Resisting Hurry, and Practicing Peace, my new friend Jen offers a fresh perspective on how we deal with our cultural obsession with busyness and control.
She urges us to see time as a divine gift to be embraced rather than a resource to be mastered.
I Reimagined Time
Last week, I had the honor and privilege of spending six days with Grandbird #5, June Noelle, and her parents, Brooke and Aaron.
Here, with a child six weeks fresh from Heaven, I reimagined time.
I kept the words and heart of Jenn Pollock Michel near and dear to my heart—right next to cuddler June.
Jen’s thoughts about “receiving time” instead of “managing time” impressed my heart. In our interview, I asked her, “So what does receiving time look like?”
She answered:
I think it looks like gratitude, number one. You know, I think our relationship to time often tends to be set in a scarcity mindset. You know, ‘There’s never enough.’”
It’s always vanishing from our lives, sifting through our fingers.
And I think this receiving time is to live into a new story of time—really believing that God is the giver of time.
God is the giver of plenty. He is not the God of scarcity.
So whatever time I have is the time he’s ordained and declared to be sufficient for the scope of my life.
Receive the time set before you with gratitude.
How Do You Imagine Time?
Jenn asks several outstanding questions in our conversation, but the two that stay near to my heart are:
What would be different if you looked to receive your life from God rather than simply manage or change it?
What new freedom can you enjoy, knowing time is a gift?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
