I love New Year’s Eve.
Not specifically for the parties or the celebratory fireworks, but for the atmosphere of potential and possibility that surrounds it.
A new year.
A blank slate.
An empty page.
Wide open fields of opportunity and experiences.
As a writer, I live for the moment when words flow and find their way into a meaningful thought.
As a coach and counselor, I live for the moment when words flow and find their way into healing the soul.
Most importantly, as a mom and grandmother, I live for the moment when words flow and find their way into making my family stronger, better, and all it was meant to be.
If we think of this existence of the individual as a larger or smaller room, it appears evident that most people learn to know only a corner of their room, a place by the window, a strip of floor on which they walk up and down (Rumi).
Glimmers and Life Lessons from Antwerp, Belgium
I love to travel.
It expands my capacity and enlarges the room I live in.
It stretches my personality and invites me to live outside of my comfort zone.
As Rumi once said, “If we think of this existence of the individual as a larger or smaller room, it appears evident that most people learn to know only a corner of their room, a place by the window, a strip of floor on which they walk up and down."
I do not want to live in “only a corner of my life.”
Do I like the stretching, the discomfort, or the challenges?
No.
Yet, refusing to receive them is refusing to grow.
In Season 15 of Today’s Heartlift with Janell, I am sharing glimmers and life lessons from Antwerp, Belgium. I’m here welcoming my 3rd grandchild—Eva Grace—and helping my daughter’s family as they experience an enlargement of their family’s room.
The Elusive Power of Perception
After much thought and prayer, I decided to start 2024 with an in-depth look at the elusive power of our perception process.
You see, perception is everything.
One aspect of perception is, “a thought, belief, or opinion, often held by many people and based on appearances.”1
Another is that perception happens through our senses—and you know my love for sensory work.
Take a listen to Episodes 1 and 2 and share your thoughts with us here:
Would you agree or disagree that “perception is everything?”
How does Rumi invite us to grow through his words, “If we think of this existence of the individual as a larger or smaller room, it appears evident that most people learn to know only a corner of their room, a place by the window, a strip of floor on which they walk up and down.”
Always remember that you have value, worth, and dignity.
