experiences create barriers to spiritual
formation, but now we can add that joyful
relationships have positive implications for
spiritual character formation, as well
as the development of fundamental relational
abilities. The mature physical brain is created
through a functional sculpting of shape, ability,
and chemistry. Intimate interaction in our
primary relationships transfer the brain’s core self-
functions from one generation to
the next through joyful, face-to-face
interactions.”
