“It may be a whisper-prayer at first, ‘God, help me,’ but no greater words can be spoken.
—Overcoming Hurtful Words: Rewrite Your Own Story1
Summering is the coolest word (yes, catch the pun!).
Summering means “the season between spring and autumn, comprising in the northern hemisphere usually the months of June, July, and August, or as reckoned astronomically extending from the June solstice to the September equinox.”
But the words under the word refer to “a period of maturing powers.”
A Period of Maturing Powers
I feel like I am in a period of maturing powers.
I’m unable to share all the details right now, but hopefully one day.
I’m finding myself in rooms I never thought I’d be in—thank you
for preparing me.I can’t say I’m enjoying the rooms but I sense they are purposefully training me for something ahead.
Summering Companions

I’m grateful for those who have been my summering companions.
Walking into difficult places and spaces with strange faces around you can be an overwhelming experience, but knowing you are companioned makes all the difference.
Some companions are real humans, others are voices that come from inside the books we read and the podcasts we listen to.
That is why I write books and host my podcast.
To companion with you.
From around 2014-2017, I wrote my second book.
Here’s a peek at the book proposal for my second book, Overcoming Hurtful Words: Rewrite Your Own Story (Worthy Books). I find book proposals to be harder to write than the book itself. In this peek, I’m sketching out how I want the intro and first chapters2 to look like:
From 2017-2021, I wrote my third book, Stronger Every Day: 9 Tools for an Emotionally Healthy You (Baker Books)3. They were to be “a set,” but my publisher was sold and my second contract retracted:
Overcoming Hurtful Words: Rewrite Your Own Story
Embracing Healing Words: Live into Your New Story
Thankfully, Baker Publishing Group picked it up and voila, we have Stronger Every Day.4
Summering Begins Today
Today is the Summer Solstice—the sun is at its highest point in the sky. It will be our longest day and our shortest night.
In honor of the Summer Solstice, this summer I’ll be offering heartlifting thoughts and essays from these resources to guide you through a period of maturing powers.
Each book has so many resources5, thanks to my editors and marketing teams at both publishing houses.
Let Me Know Your Thoughts
I’d love to hear what “issues” or “topics” you might be interested in hearing more about. You can email me, if you’d prefer to keep it between us.
Let the summering begin!
